Bruce Springsteen (Long Branch (New Jersey), September 23, 1949) is an American rock singer, guitarist and songwriter. His nickname is The Boss.
BiografieDe Springsteen's father is Irish, Dutch and his mother of Italian descent. From the '60s Springsteen played in several bands, including The Castiles, Steel Mill and Dr.. Zoom and The Sonic Boom. In 1972 the singer was discovered by John Hammond, who had previously discovered Bob Dylan. Springsteen recorded in that year, a contract with Columbia Records Hammonds employer. His first album was released in January 1973: Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ, named after the seaside resort of Asbury Park, where he early in his career performing in small clubs. In September 1973 he released his second album The Wild, the Innocent, & The E Street Shuffle. Although these albums do not initially resonate, years later they were platinum.
Springsteen broke through with his third album Born to Run (August 1975). Meanwhile, Springsteen (in 1974) the composition of his band, the E Street Band changed. The ranking was: Clarence Clemons on sax, Steve Van Zandt on guitar, Danny Federici on organ, Roy Bittan on piano, Garry Tallent on bass and Max Weinberg on drums. In 1975 Springsteen first visited Europe and gave a performance on November 23 in Amsterdam (RAI).
The critics were enthusiastic about Born to Run. Springsteen's music was compared to the music of Jerry Lee Lewis, his lyrics and those of Bob Dylan. Springsteen was a phenomenon. During this period Steve Van Zandt began a solo career under the name Little Steven & The Disciples of Soul, when he left the E Street Band. He was replaced by Nils Lofgren.
In June 1984 released the album Born in the USA, accompanied by a two-year international tour.
